Stat. § 4:22-15","heading":"Definitions.","body":"As used in this article:\n\"Animal\" or \"creature\" includes the whole brute creation.\n\"Bodily injury\" means physical pain, illness or any impairment of physical condition.\n\"Necessary care\" means care sufficient to preserve the health and well-being of an animal, and includes, but is not limited to: food of sufficient quantity and quality to allow for normal growth or maintenance of body weight; adequate access to water in sufficient quantity and quality to satisfy the animal's needs; access to adequate protection from the weather; and veterinary care to alleviate suffering and maintain health.\n\"Owner\" or \"person\" includes a corporation, and the knowledge and acts of an agent or employee of a corporation in regard to animals transported, owned, employed, or in the custody of the corporation shall be imputed to the corporation.\n\"Serious bodily injury\" means bodily injury which creates a substantial risk of death or which causes serious, permanent disfigurement, or protracted loss or impairment of the function of any bodily member or organ.\namended 2013, c.88, s.1.","path":["TITLE 4 AGRICULTURE AND DOMESTIC ANIMALS"],"source_url":"https://pub.njleg.state.nj.us/statutes/STATUTES-TEXT.zip","current_through":"P.L.2025, c.405, and J.R.22","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T17:54:13Z","sha256":"774730c7779b6e294294e0c18b24ac9e2a4dcec6ed6e46a8fdd4e2cc53043d77","source_id":"us-nj","stale":true,"prev":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-4-22-14.10","next":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-4-22-16"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
