Stat. § 4:22-25.4","heading":"Sale, barter of dog or cat flesh or products for human consumption; disorderly persons offense","body":"2.\tAny person who sells, barters, or offers for sale or barter, at wholesale or retail, for human consumption, the flesh of a domestic dog or cat or any product made in whole or in part from the flesh of a domestic dog or cat commits a disorderly persons offense, provided that the person knew or reasonably should have known that the flesh was from a domestic dog or cat or the product was made in whole or in part from the flesh of a domestic dog or cat.  Notwithstanding the provisions of Title 2C of the New Jersey Statutes to the contrary, any person found guilty of violating this section shall be subject to a fine of not less than $100 and a term of imprisonment of not less than 30 days.\nAs used in this section, \"domestic dog or cat\" means a dog (Canis familiaris) or cat (Felis catus or Felis domesticus) that is generally recognized in the United States as being a household pet and shall not include coyote, fox,  lynx, bobcat, or any other wild canine or feline species.\nL.1999,c.307,s.2.","path":["TITLE 4 AGRICULTURE AND DOMESTIC ANIMALS"],"source_url":"https://pub.njleg.state.nj.us/statutes/STATUTES-TEXT.zip","current_through":"P.L.2025, c.405, and J.R.22","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T17:54:13Z","sha256":"19b9f4362e87a076ead6dd7f3ee8db6ffdbc17c3f3a9ec043b4001d882cfe9c6","source_id":"us-nj","stale":true,"prev":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-4-22-25.3","next":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-4-22-25.5"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
