Stat. § 40:45-7.2","heading":"Arranging ballots for general election.","body":"2.\tWhenever a municipality has passed an ordinance pursuant to subsection a. of section 1 of P.L.2009, c.196 (C.40:45-7.1), the clerk of the county in which the municipality is located shall arrange the ballot for each subsequent general election to:\na.\tinclude those candidates for election to public office in the municipality that has adopted a form of government that provides for the holding of a regular municipal election on the second Tuesday in May but will be holding that election at the general election in November;\nb.\tensure that there is a clear separation between each candidate described in subsection a. of this section, each candidate for another public office who has been nominated for that office by a political party in the immediately preceding primary election and each candidate nominated directly by petition, so that there is no discernable alignment between candidates otherwise elected at a regular municipal election, candidates nominated by a political party for any other public office and candidates nominated directly by petition; and\nc.\tfollow such provisions of the \"Uniform Nonpartisan Elections Law,\" P.L.1981, c.379 (C.40:45-5 et seq.) as the clerk may deem feasible.\nL.2009, c.196, s.2.","path":["TITLE 40 MUNICIPALITIES AND COUNTIES"],"source_url":"https://pub.njleg.state.nj.us/statutes/STATUTES-TEXT.zip","current_through":"P.L.2025, c.405, and J.R.22","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T17:54:13Z","sha256":"4f8bc68987e73f74bc5ead42baaf53f8eed22ef2ab1c5b6055f88d29b5c3c3b4","source_id":"us-nj","stale":true,"prev":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-40-45-7.1","next":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-40-45-8"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
