Stat. § 44:8-118","heading":"Duties of welfare director","body":"12. \tThe director of welfare of each municipality shall as to that municipality, or the county welfare director shall as to that county, as appropriate:\n(a) \tSupervise by periodic investigation every person receiving public assistance, such investigation to be made by visitation at least once a month;\n(b) \tReconsider from month to month the amount and nature of public assistance given and alter, amend or suspend the same when the circumstances so require;\n(c) \tDevise ways and means for bringing persons unable to maintain themselves to self-support or to the support of any other person or agency able and willing so to do;\n(d) \tKeep full and complete records of such investigation, supervision, assistance and rehabilitation, and of all certifications of persons for employment or benefits and cancellations thereof, in such manner and form as required by the commissioner; and\n(e) \tBring about appropriate action for commitment to any State or county institution when the best interests of the needy persons would be so served.\nL.1947,c.156,s.12; amended 1995,c.259,s.20.","path":["TITLE 44 POOR"],"source_url":"https://pub.njleg.state.nj.us/statutes/STATUTES-TEXT.zip","current_through":"P.L.2025, c.405, and J.R.22","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T17:54:13Z","sha256":"33c174dd2424abff6426639ea569e1c09ed625ba584973b3729c4cf9930c6aef","source_id":"us-nj","stale":true,"prev":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-44-8-117.1","next":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-44-8-119"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
