An applicant seeking licensure as a cosmetologist-hairstylist shall:\na.\t(Deleted by amendment, P.L.2009, c.162)\nb.\tDemonstrate successful completion of a course in cosmetology and hairstyling consisting of:\n(1)\tInstruction at a school of cosmetology and hairstyling licensed in this State, the curriculum for which shall be established by the board pursuant to regulation; or\n(2)\tA program in a public school approved by the State Board of Education to offer a vocational program in cosmetology and hairstyling, or other cosmetology and hairstyling program approved by the State Board of Education; or\n(3)\tInstruction at a school of cosmetology and hairstyling licensed in another state or a foreign country which, in the opinion of the board, offers curricula which is substantially similar to that offered at licensed schools within the State; and\nc.\tTake and pass an examination conducted by the board, as provided by this act.\nL.1984, c.205, s.17; amended 1985, c.272, s.1; 2009, c.162, s.16.","path":["TITLE 45 PROFESSIONS AND OCCUPATIONS"],"source_url":"https://pub.njleg.state.nj.us/statutes/STATUTES-TEXT.zip","current_through":"P.L.2025, c.405, and J.R.22","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T17:54:13Z","sha256":"b9cf16cbc670d21104a36952a94693947da604e8a848b64584b5da1c46cc3704","source_id":"us-nj","stale":true,"prev":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-45-5b-16","next":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-45-5b-20"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
