An applicant seeking initial licensure as a barber shall:\na.\t(Deleted by amendment, P.L.2009, c.162)\nb.\t(Deleted by amendment, P.L.2009, c.162)\nc.\t(Deleted by amendment, P.L.2009, c.162)\nd.\tDemonstrate successful completion of a course of instruction in barbering consisting of:\n(1)\tInstruction at a school of cosmetology and hairstyling licensed in this State, the curriculum for which shall be established by the board pursuant to regulation; or\n(2)\tA program at a public school approved by the State Board of Education to offer a vocational program in cosmetology and hairstyling or barbering, or other cosmetology and hairstyling or barbering program approved by the State Board of Education; or\n(3)\tInstruction at a school of cosmetology and hairstyling or barbering licensed in another state or a foreign country which, in the opinion of the board, offers curricula which are substantially similar to that offered at licensed schools within the State; and\ne.\tTake and pass an examination conducted by the board, as provided by this act.\nL.1984, c.205, s.21; amended 1987, c.92, s.5; 2009, c.162, s.18.","path":["TITLE 45 PROFESSIONS AND OCCUPATIONS"],"source_url":"https://pub.njleg.state.nj.us/statutes/STATUTES-TEXT.zip","current_through":"P.L.2025, c.405, and J.R.22","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T17:54:13Z","sha256":"351d45d7e1c1f8d4bdf20d979030e60b302e23c30d8c3747619039227c24e010","source_id":"us-nj","stale":true,"prev":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-45-5b-20","next":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-45-5b-22"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
