Stat. § 45:8B-61","heading":"Eligibility for licensure as associate art therapist.","body":"11.\tTo be eligible to be licensed as an associate art therapist, an applicant shall fulfill the following requirements:\na.\tIs at least 18 years of age;\nb.\tIs of good moral character;\nc.\tHolds a master's degree in art therapy, or a clearly related field with specialization in art therapy, as determined by the committee, from any accredited educational institution that is approved by the committee; or a master's degree or doctoral degree in a closely related field to art therapy without specialization in art therapy and demonstrates to the committee that he has completed course work content and training substantially equivalent to that required for a master's degree in art therapy from an accredited educational institution that is approved by the committee.\n(1)\tIn the case of an applicant holding a master's degree in art therapy or a clearly related field with specialization in art therapy, the applicant shall have completed not less than 60 graduate credit hours in an art therapy program that is approved by the committee.\n(2)\tIn the case of an applicant holding a doctoral degree in a planned educational program of 90 graduate credit hours in a field closely related to art therapy without specialization in art therapy, the applicant shall have completed not less than 30 graduate credit hours in an art therapy program approved by the committee.\n(3)\tIn the case of an applicant holding a master's degree in a planned educational program of 60 graduate credit hours in a field closely related to art therapy without specialization in art therapy, the applicant shall have completed not less than 30 graduate credit hours in an art therapy program approved by the committee;\nThe graduate course work in art therapy from an accredited college or university program that is approved by the committee shall include training in:\n(1)\tThe art therapy profession;\n(2)\tTheory and practice of art therapy;\n(3)\tHuman growth and developmental dynamics in art;\n(4)\tApplication of art therapy with people in different treatment settings;\n(5)\tArt therapy appraisal, diagnosis and assessment;\n(6)\tEthical and legal issues of art therapy practice;\n(7)\tMatters of cultural and social diversity bearing on the practice of art therapy;\n(8)\tStandards of good art therapy practice; and\n(9)\tGroup art therapy; and\nd.\tHas passed the Art Therapy Credentials Board Examination.\nL.2015, c.199, s.11.","path":["TITLE 45 PROFESSIONS AND OCCUPATIONS"],"source_url":"https://pub.njleg.state.nj.us/statutes/STATUTES-TEXT.zip","current_through":"P.L.2025, c.405, and J.R.22","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T17:54:13Z","sha256":"93cff2d1ed2cd045b5b9ebb5a0b885f2fecc06c9491ec2ae850d6578bdef3528","source_id":"us-nj","stale":true,"prev":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-45-8b-60","next":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-45-8b-62"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
