Stat. § 46:38A-2","heading":"Definitions","body":"As used in this chapter:\na.   \"Adult\" means an individual who has attained the age of 21 years;\nb.   \"Broker\" means a person lawfully engaged in the business of effecting transactions in securities or commodities for the person's own account or for the account of others;\nc.   \"Court\" means the Superior Court;\nd.   \"Custodial property\" means any interest in property transferred to a custodian under this chapter and the income from and proceeds of that interest in property;\ne.   \"Custodian\" means a person so designated under R.S. 46:38A-19 or a successor or substitute custodian designated under R.S. 46:38A-42 through R.S. 46:38A-45;\nf.   \"Financial institution\" means a bank, trust company, savings institution, savings and loan association or credit union, chartered and supervised under State or federal law;\ng.   \"Guardian\" of a minor means a guardian of his estate or person;\nh.   \"Legal representative\" means an individual's personal representative or guardian;\ni.   \"Member of the minor's family\" means the minor's parent, stepparent, spouse, grandparent, brother, sister, uncle, or aunt, whether of the whole or half blood or by adoption;\nj.   \"Minor\" means an individual who has not attained the age of 21 years;\nk.   \"Person\" means an individual, corporation, organization, or other legal entity;\nl.   \"Personal representative\" means an executor, administrator, successor personal representative of a decedent's estate or a person legally authorized to perform substantially the same functions but excludes a special administrator;\nm.   \"State\" includes any state of the United States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and any territory or possession subject to the legislative authority of the United States;\nn.   \"Transfer\" means a transaction that creates custodial property under R.S. 46:38A-19;\no.   \"Transferor\" means a person who makes a transfer under this chapter;\np.   \"Trust company\" means a financial institution, corporation, or other legal entity, authorized to exercise general trust powers.\nSource:  New.\nL. 1987, c. 18, s. 1.","path":["TITLE 46 PROPERTY"],"source_url":"https://pub.njleg.state.nj.us/statutes/STATUTES-TEXT.zip","current_through":"P.L.2025, c.405, and J.R.22","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T17:54:13Z","sha256":"851126d7c878ee742b9735e1e36566940304feece2184b6071e3cb8380595c30","source_id":"us-nj","stale":true,"prev":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-46-38a-1","next":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-46-38a-3"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
