Stat. § 52:17B-147","heading":"Powers and duties of agency.","body":"6.\tThe agency shall:\na.\tServe as the State planning agency pursuant to the Federal Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 and the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act of 1974, as amended, and other related federal or State acts;\nb.\t(Deleted by amendment, P.L.2007, c.39);\nc.\tAdvise and assist the Governor in developing policies, plans, programs and budgets for improving the coordination, administration and effectiveness of the criminal justice system in the State;\nd.\tPrepare a State comprehensive criminal justice plan on behalf of the Governor, which plan, and any substantial modifications thereto, shall be submitted to the Legislature for an advisory review of goals, priorities and policies contained therein, and shall be periodically updated and based on an analysis of the State's criminal justice needs and problems;\ne.\tEstablish goals, priorities and standards for the reduction of crime and the improvement of the administration of justice in the State;\nf.\tRecommend legislation concerning criminal justice matters to the Governor and Legislature;\ng.\tEncourage local and regional comprehensive criminal justice planning efforts;\nh.\tMonitor and evaluate programs and projects, funded in whole or in part by or through the State Government, aimed at reducing crime and delinquency and improving the administration of justice;\ni.\tCooperate with and render technical assistance to State agencies, units of county and local government and public or private agencies relating to the criminal justice system;\nj.\tApply for, contract for, receive and expend for its purposes any appropriations or grants from the State, its political subdivisions, the federal government or any other source, public or private;\nk.\tHave the authority to collect from any State, county or local governmental entity information, data, reports, statistics or such other material which is necessary to carry out the agency's functions; and\nl.\tPerform such other duties as may be necessary to carry out the purposes of this act.\nL.1968, c.176, s.6; amended 2007, c.39, s.9.","path":["TITLE 52 STATE GOVERNMENT, DEPARTMENTS AND OFFICERS"],"source_url":"https://pub.njleg.state.nj.us/statutes/STATUTES-TEXT.zip","current_through":"P.L.2025, c.405, and J.R.22","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T17:54:13Z","sha256":"59f09166760fe0089839c7a6ecbbd0e271221676a7f4e2505c264022c5d5d602","source_id":"us-nj","stale":true,"prev":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-52-17b-145","next":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-52-17b-148"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
