The Superintendent of State Police shall designate the Station Intervention Officer as the sexual violence liaison officer for each State Police station.\nb.\tThe sexual violence liaison officer shall:\n(1)\tserve as the station's in-house expert on how to respond to sexual violence cases;\n(2)\tact as the primary point-of-contact for each local sexual violence program and county Sexual Assault Response Team established pursuant to section 6 of P.L.2001, c.81 (C.52:4B-54) to coordinate an effective community response;\n(3)\twhen appropriately trained, provide in-house training on sexual violence and support training implementation by the Victim Services Unit;\n(4)\tmonitor the station's compliance with sexual violence best practices as set forth in the statutory law and Attorney General policies; and\n(5)\tserve in any other capacity deemed appropriate by the superintendent.\nc.\tA sexual violence liaison officer shall complete specialized sexual violence training as specified by the superintendent.\nd.\tA regional investigator of the Victim Services Unit of the Division of State Police shall:\n(1)\tbe a member of the Victim Services Unit, or its successor;\n(2)\tcomplete specialized sexual violence training as specified by the superintendent; and\n(3)\trepresent the station at county meetings of the Sexual Assault Response Team.\ne.\tA member of the Division of State Police shall be disqualified from serving as a sexual violence liaison officer or regional investigator of the Victim Services Unit if:\n(1)\tthe member is the subject of an investigation for a complaint charging a violation of the internal rules and regulations established for the conduct of the division regarding sexual violence, sexual misconduct, domestic violence, stalking, or sexual harassment or there are pending criminal charges against the member for any of these offenses; or\n(2)\ta court has issued a protective or restraining order against the member.\nf.\tNothing in this section shall prohibit the sexual violence liaison officer from simultaneously serving as a domestic violence liaison officer or Megan's Law resource officer.\nL.2021, c.65, s.1.","path":["TITLE 52 STATE GOVERNMENT, DEPARTMENTS AND OFFICERS"],"source_url":"https://pub.njleg.state.nj.us/statutes/STATUTES-TEXT.zip","current_through":"P.L.2025, c.405, and J.R.22","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T17:54:13Z","sha256":"2ef50b0b67bf2b50d8de2aef39878bc1eb34246a9622a3b04fcb13fabaa3ff83","source_id":"us-nj","stale":true,"prev":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-52-17b-9.19","next":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-52-17b-9.21"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
