Stat. § 52:27D-198.6","heading":"Conditions for display of certain holiday vegetation.","body":"1.\tNotwithstanding the provisions of any law, rule or regulation to the contrary, trees and wreaths used in holiday displays may be exhibited in all buildings covered by the \"Uniform Fire Safety Act,\" P.L.1983, c.383 (C.52:27D-192 et seq.) under the following conditions:\na.\tNatural cut trees shall be permitted in any building if the trees:\n1)\tAre located in areas protected by an approved automatic sprinkler system, or\n2)\tMeet the flame-retardant requirements of the \"Uniform Fire Safety Act,\" P.L.1983, c.383 (C.52:27D-192 et seq.) provided that the trees are watered daily.\nb.\tLiving trees in a balled condition with their roots protected by an earth ball, maintained in a fresh condition and not allowed to become dry, shall be permitted in any building.\nc.\tHoliday wreaths not in excess of 10 percent of the aggregate wall area of any room or space shall be permitted in any building.\nd.\tThe appropriate enforcing agency may limit the number of trees in any building.\ne.\tTrees shall not be allowed to obstruct corridors, exits or other means of egress.\nf.\tOpen flames such as from candles, lanterns, kerosene heaters and gas-fired heaters shall not be located on or near trees or holiday wreaths.\ng.\tNothing herein shall apply to, or be construed as extending the jurisdiction of, the \"Uniform Fire Safety Act,\" P.L.1983, c.383 (C.52:27D-192 et seq.) to residential buildings.\nL.1997,c.428,s.1.","path":["TITLE 52 STATE GOVERNMENT, DEPARTMENTS AND OFFICERS"],"source_url":"https://pub.njleg.state.nj.us/statutes/STATUTES-TEXT.zip","current_through":"P.L.2025, c.405, and J.R.22","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T17:54:13Z","sha256":"db20c8c290bdf8cbcbf21b0c034141498f10b80abfa0b26bd8e9c8a9b7ca6f0c","source_id":"us-nj","stale":true,"prev":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-52-27d-198.5","next":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-52-27d-198.7"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
