Notices, rules, decisions, and orders required or permitted to be issued and served pursuant to the \"Uniform Fire Safety Act,\" P.L.1983, c.383 (C.52:27D-192 et seq.) shall be served as follows:\n(1)\tOn the owner and operator by one or more of the following methods:\n(a)\tBy mail to the person designated as owner or agent on the certificate of registration in the municipal tax records or in the records of the Secretary of State and to the operator.\n(b) By serving the document on the Secretary of State, who shall be deemed the owner's agent for service of process, provided that reasonable efforts have first been made to serve the owner, or the owner's agent, and the operator by mail and that a copy of the document is posted in a conspicuous location on the premises.  \"Conspicuous location\" shall include the walls of the front vestibule or any common foyer or hallway immediately inside the main front entrance.\n(c)\tBy personal delivery of the document to the owner and to the operator.\n(d)\tBy leaving the document at the office or dwelling unit of the owner and of the operator with a person 14 years of age or older.\n(e)\tBy electronic service to the owner and operator provided that a delivery receipt is obtained.\n(2)\tOn any other person by one or more of the following methods:\n(a)\tBy mail to the person at the person's last known address.\n(b)\tBy personal delivery of the document to the person.\n(c)\tBy leaving the document at the office or dwelling unit of the person with a person 14 years of age or older.\nb.\tThe date of personal service or the third day after mailing shall be considered the date of service.\nc.\tAs used in this section:\n\"Operator\" means a person or persons in the position of a tenant or lessee who conducts business from and is in actual physical possession or occupancy of all or part of the property.\n\"Owner\" means a property owner, or the owner's agent or representative, whose name appears on the title in the public records.\nL.1983, c. 383, s. 20; amended 2025, c.19, s.7.","path":["TITLE 52 STATE GOVERNMENT, DEPARTMENTS AND OFFICERS"],"source_url":"https://pub.njleg.state.nj.us/statutes/STATUTES-TEXT.zip","current_through":"P.L.2025, c.405, and J.R.22","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T17:54:13Z","sha256":"f2b7db0ab0b2980a199b4a957fcbabfd5c652b77ccd8d4b8b18ac477f66fd20b","source_id":"us-nj","stale":true,"prev":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-52-27d-210","next":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-52-27d-212"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
