The \"Black education liaison\" is created in the department.\nB. The liaison shall:\n(1) focus on issues related to Black education and advise the secretary and the council on the development and implementation of public policy regarding the education of Black students;\n(2) advise the department and the council on the development and implementation of the five-year strategic plan for public elementary and secondary education in the state as the plan relates to Black student education;\n(3) assist and be assisted by other staff in the department and in the higher education department to improve elementary, secondary and post-secondary educational outcomes for Black students;\n(4) maintain and update information on the department's website or a separate website that includes:\n(a) subject to funding, links to a statewide hotline for reporting racially charged incidents;\n(b) links to the department's Black education white papers as well as other pertinent research; and\n(c) information on and links to historically Black colleges and universities;\n(5) serve as a resource to enable school districts and charter schools to provide equitable and culturally relevant learning environments, educational opportunities and culturally relevant instructional materials for Black students enrolled in public schools;\n(6) support and consult with the council;\n(7) support school districts and charter schools to recruit parents on site-based and school district committees that represent the ethnic diversity of the community; and\n(8) implement activities that are recommended and prioritized by the council within available funding.\"","path":["Chapter 22 - Public Schools","ARTICLE 23C Black Education"],"source_url":"https://nmonesource.com/nmos/nmsa-unanno/en/item/18522/index.do","current_through":"2026-07-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T15:02:19Z","sha256":"b069fef1d61b719d223b847c344790f07ef7b0d63fc1c86c222734207e3c2bf1","source_id":"us-nm","stale":false,"prev":"us-nm/22-23c-4","next":"us-nm/22-23c-6"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
