Notwithstanding any other provision of the Public School Code, a local school board may issue a high school diploma to a Vietnam conflict veteran who:\n(1) is an honorably discharged member of the armed forces of the United States;\n(2) was scheduled to graduate from high school after February 28, 1961 and before May 7, 1975;\n(3) was a resident of New Mexico and attended a high school in the locality of the current school district; and\n(4) left high school before graduation to serve in the Vietnam conflict.\nB. A local school board may issue a high school diploma to a qualifying Vietnam conflict veteran regardless of whether the veteran holds a high school equivalency credential or is deceased.\nC. The department shall adopt and promulgate rules to carry out the provisions of this section, including:\n(1) an application form to be submitted to the local school board by the Vietnam conflict veteran or a person acting on behalf of the veteran if the veteran is incapacitated or deceased; and\n(2) what constitutes acceptable evidence of eligibility for a diploma.","path":["Chapter 22 - Public Schools","ARTICLE 5 Local School Boards"],"source_url":"https://nmonesource.com/nmos/nmsa-unanno/en/item/18522/index.do","current_through":"2026-07-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T15:02:19Z","sha256":"2fbee5e0d0445bacd812fe4eef4801bbe8e1129a0f7f0f377673dd6b23fedd3f","source_id":"us-nm","stale":false,"prev":"us-nm/22-5-4.13","next":"us-nm/22-5-4.15"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
