The department shall issue a standardized special registration plate with a logo specified in Section 66-3-424 NMSA 1978 indicating that the recipient is an active duty uniform service member.\nB. For a fee of twenty-five dollars ($25.00), which shall be in addition to the regular motor vehicle registration fees, a motor vehicle owner who is an active duty uniform service member may apply for the issuance of a special registration plate as defined in Subsection A of this section. No two owners shall be issued identically lettered or numbered plates.\nC. The twenty-five dollar ($25.00) fee provided in Subsection B of this section shall be waived for each registration period in which a validating sticker is issued under the provisions of Section 66-3-17 NMSA 1978, in lieu of the issuance of a special active duty uniform service member plate.\nD. The revenue from the special active duty uniform service member registration plate fee imposed by Subsection B of this section shall be distributed as follows:\n(1) ten dollars ($10.00) of the fee collected for each registration plate shall be retained by the department and is appropriated to the department for the manufacture and issuance of the registration plates; and\n(2) fifteen dollars ($15.00) of the fee collected for each registration plate shall be paid to the state treasurer for credit to the motor vehicle suspense fund for distribution in accordance with Section 66-6-23 NMSA 1978.","path":["Chapter 66 - Motor Vehicles","ARTICLE 3 Registration Laws; Security Interests; Anti-Theft Provisions; Bicycles; Equipment; Unsafe Vehicles; Off-Highway Motor Vehicles; Other Vehicles"],"source_url":"https://nmonesource.com/nmos/nmsa-unanno/en/item/18569/index.do","current_through":"2026-07-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T15:02:20Z","sha256":"ee6b654e533275c3d3620a6a60feb5c6b46cc6e50dff0026a8ba960d93d18429","source_id":"us-nm","stale":false,"prev":"us-nm/66-3-424.10","next":"us-nm/66-3-424.12"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
