{"data":{"id":"us-nm/74-9-2","jurisdiction":"us-nm","citation":"74-9-2","heading":"Purposes.","body":"The purposes of the Solid Waste Act are to:\nA. authorize and direct the establishment of a comprehensive solid waste management program;\nB. provide technical, financial and program development assistance to counties and municipalities for solid waste management;\nC. enhance the beauty and quality of the environment; conserve, recover and recycle resources; and protect the public health, safety and welfare;\nD. plan for and regulate, in the most economically feasible, cost-effective and environmentally safe manner, the reduction, storage, collection, transportation, separation, processing, recycling and disposal of solid waste;\nE. provide the opportunity and incentive for counties and municipalities to plan adequately and provide for cost-effective and environmentally safe solid waste management at the local level;\nF. require issuance of permits for the construction, operation and, if applicable, closure and postclosure maintenance of solid waste facilities;\nG. promote source reduction, recycling, reuse, treatment and transformation of solid waste as viable alternatives to disposal of those wastes by landfill disposal methods; and\nH. require the state and its agencies, instrumentalities and political subdivisions to develop procurement policies that aid and promote the development of recycling recyclable materials.","path":["Chapter 74 - Environmental Improvement","ARTICLE 9 Solid Waste Act"],"source_url":"https://nmonesource.com/nmos/nmsa-unanno/en/item/18577/index.do","current_through":"2026-07-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T15:02:20Z","sha256":"3a63eed01cbdb5900dc02da1b8fa1767c7d3ebe1e529e69dc5420814eef23787","source_id":"us-nm","stale":false,"prev":"us-nm/74-9-1","next":"us-nm/74-9-3"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
