Except as otherwise provided in subsection 2, a physician or advanced practice registered nurse shall prescribe for an injured employee a generic drug in lieu of a drug with a brand name if the generic drug is biologically equivalent and has the same active ingredient or ingredients of the same strength, quantity and form of dosage as the drug with a brand name.\n2.
