Code § 24-233","heading":"§ 24-233 Personal audio devices.","body":"(a) No person shall operate or use or cause to be operated or used any personal audio device in such a manner as to create an unreasonable noise.\n\n(b) For the purposes of this section unreasonable noise shall include but shall not be limited to:\n\n(1) the operation or use of a personal audio device on or in any public right-of-way so that sound emanating from such device is plainly audible to another individual at a distance of 25 feet or more from the source.\n\n(2) the operation or use of a personal audio device from on or inside a motor vehicle, whether moving, parked, stopped or standing, on or in any public right-of-way so that sound emanating from such device is plainly audible to another individual outside of such motor vehicle at a distance of 25 feet or more from the source.\n\n(c) Nothing in this section shall be construed to permit the operation or use of a personal audio device where such operation or use would otherwise be prohibited pursuant to section 10-108 or 24-244 of the administrative code.","path":["New York City Administrative Code","Title 24","Chapter 2: Noise Control"],"source_url":"https://files.amlegal.com/pdffiles/NewYorkCity/Admin/XML.zip","current_through":"Local Law 2026/135 (enacted August 31, 2026)","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-06T02:48:57Z","sha256":"5bc73f8737e7a9a7546f6aa78e8d04e2ae887b143681c070117980467f55e1ee","source_id":"us-nyc","stale":false,"prev":"us-nyc/n.y.c.-admin.-code-24-232.1","next":"us-nyc/n.y.c.-admin.-code-24-234"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
