Code § 27-949","heading":"§ 27-949 Protection of standpipe system.","body":"(a) All parts of the standpipe systems that may be exposed to frost shall be protected from freezing by any one of the following methods:\n\n(1) The piping shall be frostproofed with insulation having a thermal conductance of 0.1 Btu/hr. per square foot of surface per degree F at a mean temperature of seventy to seventy-five degrees F. Insulation shall be protected to prevent water infiltration, and when exposed to the weather the insulation shall be covered with a forty-five pound roofing felt jacket or equivalent.\n\n(2) Steam or electric tracers may be used in conjunction with the insulation.\n\n(b) Tanks subject to freezing temperatures shall be protected.","path":["New York City Administrative Code","Title 27","Chapter 1: Building Code"],"source_url":"https://files.amlegal.com/pdffiles/NewYorkCity/Admin/XML.zip","current_through":"Local Law 2026/135 (enacted August 31, 2026)","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-06T02:48:57Z","sha256":"e2d83781ca74c4f6a3e34e608ac99161ded941c843e47653d86b25e86e82b4ec","source_id":"us-nyc","stale":false,"prev":"us-nyc/n.y.c.-admin.-code-27-948","next":"us-nyc/n.y.c.-admin.-code-27-950"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
