Code § 28-501.1","heading":"§ 28-501.1 Permit required.","body":"The commissioner may, in his or her discretion, when necessary in the public interest, establish a permit requirement for signs maintained in the areas described in this article in accordance with the provisions of this article and the rules of the department. On and after a date to be provided by the rules establishing such a permit requirement, and subject to the provisions of section 28-501.6 of this code, it shall be unlawful to place or maintain a sign, as defined in section 12-10 of the zoning resolution, on any building or premises unless a permit for the maintenance of such sign has been issued by the department pursuant to this article if such sign is within a distance of 900 linear feet (274 m) from and within view of an arterial highway or within a distance of 200 linear feet (60 960 mm) from and within view of a public park with an area of one half acre or more.","path":["New York City Administrative Code","Title 28","Chapter 5: Miscellaneous Provisions"],"source_url":"https://files.amlegal.com/pdffiles/NewYorkCity/Admin/XML.zip","current_through":"Local Law 2026/135 (enacted August 31, 2026)","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-06T02:48:57Z","sha256":"69f0c4d0473f088ab0577dbb7e440cbf9cdba45502106f2e2d25e79dbfb0f058","source_id":"us-nyc","stale":false,"prev":"us-nyc/n.y.c.-admin.-code-28-430.10","next":"us-nyc/n.y.c.-admin.-code-28-501.1.1"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
