Code § BC 1801","heading":"Section BC 1801: General","body":"1801.1 Scope.\n\nThe provisions of this chapter shall apply to building and foundation systems in those areas not subject to scour or water pressure by wind and wave action. Buildings and foundations subject to such scour or water pressure loads shall be designed in accordance with Chapter 16 and Appendix G.\n\n1801.2 Design.\n\nAllowable bearing pressures, allowable stresses and design formulas provided in this chapter shall be used with the allowable stress design load combinations specified in Section 1605.3. The quality and design of materials used structurally in excavations and foundations shall comply with the requirements specified in Chapters 16, 19, 21, 22 and 23. Excavations and fills shall also comply with Chapter 33.\n\n1801.2.1 Foundation design for seismic overturning.\n\nWhere foundations are proportioned using the load combinations of Sections 1605.2 or 1605.3.1 and the computation of seismic overturning effects is by equivalent lateral force or modal analysis, the proportioning shall be in accordance with Section 12.13.4 of ASCE 7.","path":["New York City Administrative Code","Title 28","Chapter 7: New York City Building Code"],"source_url":"https://files.amlegal.com/pdffiles/NewYorkCity/Admin/XML.zip","current_through":"Local Law 2026/135 (enacted August 31, 2026)","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-06T02:48:57Z","sha256":"e9372c4ff4759890cd3a5c26bdfc0f98901338341cdb6d75cc0bf8c95de107be","source_id":"us-nyc","stale":false,"prev":"us-nyc/n.y.c.-admin.-code-bc-1711","next":"us-nyc/n.y.c.-admin.-code-bc-1802"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
