Code § BC H105","heading":"Section BC H105: Design and Construction","body":"H105.1 General requirements.\n\nSigns shall be designed and constructed to comply with the provisions of this code for use of materials, loads and stresses.\n\nH105.2 Permits, drawings and specifications.\n\nWhere a permit is required, as provided in Chapter 1, construction documents shall be required. These documents shall show the dimensions, material and required details of construction, including loads, stresses and anchors. It is the responsibility of the property owner to have every sign for which a permit is required inspected at least once every calendar year.\n\nH105.3 Wind load.\n\nSigns shall be designed and constructed to withstand wind pressure as provided for in Chapter 16 of this code.\n\nH105.4 Seismic load.\n\nSigns shall be designed to meet seismic requirements of Chapter 16 of this code.\n\nH105.5 Working stresses.\n\nIn outdoor advertising display signs, the allowable working stresses shall conform to the requirements of Chapter 16 of this code. The working stresses of wire rope and its fastenings shall not exceed 25 percent of the ultimate strength of the rope or fasteners.\n\nExceptions:\n\n1. The allowable working stresses for steel and wood shall be in accordance with the provisions of Chapters 22 and 23 of this code.\n\n2. The working strength of chains, cables, guys or steel rods shall not exceed one-fifth of the ultimate strength of such chains, cables, guys or steel.\n\nH105.6 Attachment.\n\nSigns attached to masonry, concrete or steel shall be safely and securely fastened by means of metal anchors, bolts or approved expansion screws of sufficient size and anchorage to safely support the loads applied.","path":["New York City Administrative Code","Title 28","Chapter 7: New York City Building Code"],"source_url":"https://files.amlegal.com/pdffiles/NewYorkCity/Admin/XML.zip","current_through":"Local Law 2026/135 (enacted August 31, 2026)","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-06T02:48:57Z","sha256":"5c605cbc6084111781c001f55898e2bb30e54c7418b8356ab13d347ad2a4e5be","source_id":"us-nyc","stale":false,"prev":"us-nyc/n.y.c.-admin.-code-bc-h104","next":"us-nyc/n.y.c.-admin.-code-bc-h106"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
