Code § EBC 1009","heading":"Section EBC 1009: Mechanical","body":"1009.1 Mechanical requirements.\n\nWhere the existing building or part of an existing building is subject to a change of occupancy, mechanical systems serving the new occupancy or use shall comply with Sections 1009.1.1 and 1009.1.2.\n\n1009.1.1 Change in occupancy classification.\n\nWhere there is a change in the occupancy classification of the building or portion thereof, the building area subject to change shall comply with all the requirements of the New York City Mechanical Code for the new occupancy classification.\n\n1009.1.2 A change of use within the same Occupancy Group.\n\nWhere a building or space is changed to a use with higher mechanical ventilation demand, the mechanical system serving such building or space shall comply with the requirements of Section 809 or 909 as applicable.","path":["New York City Administrative Code","Title 28","Chapter 12: The New York City Existing Building Code (effective July 17, 2027)"],"source_url":"https://files.amlegal.com/pdffiles/NewYorkCity/Admin/XML.zip","current_through":"Local Law 2026/135 (enacted August 31, 2026)","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-06T02:48:57Z","sha256":"c68c3672875b5af831d601d20c8b1dd897ef79efdb0257ca6fe9fec35a8c97f7","source_id":"us-nyc","stale":false,"prev":"us-nyc/n.y.c.-admin.-code-ebc-1008","next":"us-nyc/n.y.c.-admin.-code-ebc-1010"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
