Code § EBC 307","heading":"Section EBC 307: Structural","body":"307.1 General.\n\nRepair, alteration, partial demolition, removal, change of occupancy, relocation, moving, raising of or additions to existing buildings shall be subject to the provisions of Chapter 7. The applicability of Chapter 7 shall not be limited only to planned structural work and shall include structural elements in need of repair discovered during the course of construction.\n\n307.1.1 Condition assessment and remediation.\n\nWhere the scope of work triggers condition assessment or remediation work in accordance with Section 704 or 708, such assessment or remediation work shall be performed as required.\n\n307.2 Non-structural building elements, equipment and systems.\n\nThe installation of non-structural building elements, systems and equipment shall be subject to Sections 307.2.1 and 307.2.2.\n\n307.2.1 Seismic support.\n\nIn existing buildings of seismic design categories C and D as defined in the New York City Building Code, new building elements, equipment and systems shall be provided with seismic supports as required by Section 1613 of the New York City Building Code.\n\nExceptions\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t:\n\n1. One- and two-family dwellings 3 stories or less in height.\n\n2. The seismic force-resisting systems of wood-frame buildings that conform to the provisions of Section 2308 are not required to be analyzed as specified in this section.\n\n3. Agricultural storage structures intended only for incidental human occupancy.\n\n4. Structures that require special consideration of their response characteristics and environment that are not addressed by this code or ASCE 7, as modified by the New York City Building Code, and for which other regulations provide seismic criteria, such as vehicular bridges, electrical transmission towers, hydraulic structures, buried utility lines and their appurtenances and nuclear reactors.\n\n307.2.2 Wind resistance.\n\nNew building elements, equipment, appliances and supports that are exposed to wind shall be designed and installed to resist the wind pressures determined in accordance with Chapter 16 of the New York City Building Code.\n\n307.2.3 Loading.\n\nModifications resulting in an increase in loads on a structural member shall not be permitted without prior verification that such member is capable of supporting such additional loads in accordance with Chapter 7.","path":["New York City Administrative Code","Title 28","Chapter 12: The New York City Existing Building Code (effective July 17, 2027)"],"source_url":"https://files.amlegal.com/pdffiles/NewYorkCity/Admin/XML.zip","current_through":"Local Law 2026/135 (enacted August 31, 2026)","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-06T02:48:57Z","sha256":"13de86b04380701aad70c4e71cf3fb89f5f8e388397d156844f4bb034e71b76f","source_id":"us-nyc","stale":false,"prev":"us-nyc/n.y.c.-admin.-code-ebc-306","next":"us-nyc/n.y.c.-admin.-code-ebc-308"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
