Code § FC 2408","heading":"Section FC 2408: Organic Peroxides and Dual-Component Coatings","body":"2408.1 General.\n\nSpraying operations involving the use of organic peroxides and other dual-component coatings shall be conducted in accordance with this section and FC 2403.\n\n2408.2 Design and construction.\n\nSpraying operations involving the use of organic peroxides and other dual-component coatings shall be conducted in a facility designed and installed in accordance with this section.\n\n2408.2.1 Construction.\n\nSpraying operations shall be conducted in spray booths complying with the requirements of FC 2404.3.2.\n\n2408.2.2 Fire extinguishing systems.\n\nSpray booths shall be protected throughout by a sprinkler system.\n\n2408.2.3 Equipment.\n\nSpray guns and related equipment shall be of a type manufactured for such use.\n\n2408.2.4 Pressure tanks.\n\nSeparate pressure vessels and inserts shall be used for the application of the resin and the organic peroxide, and shall not be interchanged. Organic peroxide pressure tank inserts shall be constructed of stainless steel or polyethylene.\n\n2408.3 Operation and maintenance.\n\nFacilities in which spraying operations involving the use of organic peroxides and other dual-component coatings are conducted shall be operated and maintained in compliance with the requirements of this section and FC 2403.3 and 2403.4, and FC 2408.3.1 through 2408.3.8.\n\n2408.3.1 Contamination prevention.\n\nOrganic peroxide initiators shall not be contaminated with foreign substances.\n\n2408.3.2 Spilled material.\n\nSpilled organic peroxides shall be promptly removed so there are no residues. Spilled material absorbed by using a noncombustible absorbent shall be promptly removed from the premises and disposed of lawfully.\n\n2408.3.3 Residue control.\n\nMaterials shall not be contaminated by dusts and overspray residues resulting from the sanding or spraying of finishing materials containing organic peroxides.\n\n2408.3.4 Handling.\n\nHandling of organic peroxides shall be conducted in a manner that avoids shock and friction that produces decomposition and violent reaction hazards.\n\n2408.3.5 Mixing.\n\nOrganic peroxides shall not be mixed directly with accelerators or promoters.\n\n2408.3.6 Personnel qualifications.\n\nPersonnel working with organic peroxides and dual-component coatings shall be specifically trained to work with these materials.\n\n2408.3.7 Storage.\n\nThe storage of organic peroxides shall be in accordance with FC Chapter 62.\n\n2408.3.8 Sources of ignition.\n\nOnly nonsparking tools shall be used in areas where organic peroxides are stored, mixed or applied.","path":["New York City Administrative Code","Title 29","Chapter 2: New York City Fire Code"],"source_url":"https://files.amlegal.com/pdffiles/NewYorkCity/Admin/XML.zip","current_through":"Local Law 2026/135 (enacted August 31, 2026)","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-06T02:48:57Z","sha256":"0da3928b7e9acf9f8b401e883dc0c2902f108e336951ed29069ebea2a639e760","source_id":"us-nyc","stale":true,"prev":"us-nyc/n.y.c.-admin.-code-fc-2407","next":"us-nyc/n.y.c.-admin.-code-fc-2409"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
