Code § FC 3317","heading":"Section FC 3317: Safeguarding Roofing Operations","body":"3317.1 General.\n\nRoofing operations utilizing heat-producing systems or other ignition sources shall be performed by a competent person. Roofing operations involving hot work shall comply with the requirements of FC Chapters 35, 58, and 61, as applicable.\n\n3317.2 Tar kettles.\n\nTar kettles shall be handled and used in accordance with FC 303.\n\n3317.3 Portable fire extinguishers for roofing operations.\n\nPortable fire extinguishers shall be provided in accordance with FC 906. There shall be not less than one multi-purpose portable fire extinguisher with a minimum 3-A 40-B:C rating on the roof being covered or repaired.\n\n3317.4 Prohibited operations.\n\nIt shall be unlawful to install any roofing material using a torch on a roof of combustible construction, or otherwise engage in roofing operations on roofs of combustible construction using hot work equipment.","path":["New York City Administrative Code","Title 29","Chapter 2: New York City Fire Code"],"source_url":"https://files.amlegal.com/pdffiles/NewYorkCity/Admin/XML.zip","current_through":"Local Law 2026/135 (enacted August 31, 2026)","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-06T02:48:57Z","sha256":"647170926f418c4c4083a017e22661f9945d87a1953cca587ef02175d5d33a9f","source_id":"us-nyc","stale":true,"prev":"us-nyc/n.y.c.-admin.-code-fc-3316","next":"us-nyc/n.y.c.-admin.-code-fc-3318"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
