Code § FC 5307","heading":"Section FC 5307: Carbon Dioxide Beverage Dispensing Systems","body":"5307.1 Scope.\n\nThe storage, handling and use in beverage dispensing systems of more than 100 pounds (874 SCF) of carbon dioxide, in low-pressure, liquefied form, shall be in accordance with this section. The storage, handling and use of carbon dioxide in other forms and for other purposes shall be regulated by other applicable provisions of this code and the rules.\n\n5307.2 Permits.\n\nPermits shall be required as set forth in FC 105.6.\n\n5307.3 General.\n\nCarbon dioxide beverage dispensing systems shall be designed, installed, operated and maintained in accordance with this section, the construction codes, the rules, Chapter 13 of NFPA 55, and the equipment manufacturer's instructions.\n\n5307.4 Supervision.\n\nThe storage, handling and use of carbon dioxide in carbon beverage dispensing systems shall be supervised as set forth in FC 5307.4.1 and 5307.4.2:\n\n5307.4.1 Installation.\n\nCarbon dioxide beverage dispensing systems shall be installed by a person holding a certificate of fitness.\n\n5307.4.2. Filling of containers.\n\nThe filling of a carbon dioxide container from any source shall be performed by a person holding a certificate of fitness.\n\n5307.5 Carbon dioxide detection and alarm systems.\n\nAll carbon dioxide beverage dispensing systems shall be equipped with a carbon dioxide detection and alarm system in accordance with the rules. Such a system shall be installed in the room or other area in which the carbon dioxide storage containers are installed and any other room or area in which carbon dioxide could accumulate, and shall activate an alarm in such room or area, outside the entrance to such room or area and such other locations that the department may prescribe by rule.\n\nExceptions:\n\n1. Any aboveground room or area provided with continuous mechanical ventilation system designed to exhaust carbon dioxide to a safe outdoor location. Such mechanical ventilation shall be designed to operate at a negative pressure in relation to the surrounding area; provide ventilation at a rate of not less than 1 cubic foot per minute per square foot (0.00508 m\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t3\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t/(s.m\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t2\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t)); and take exhaust from a point within 12 inches (305 mm) of the floor.\n\n2. Any room or area provided with a gas detection system in accordance with FC 908.\n\n5307.6 Operational and Maintenance Requirements.\n\nCarbon dioxide beverage dispensing systems shall be operated and maintained in accordance with the standards set forth in FC 5307.3 and such other requirements as the department may prescribe by rule, including:\n\n1. Warning signs.\n\n2. Periodic inspections of the system.\n\n3. User safety training.\n\n4. Required notifications in the event of a carbon dioxide leak.\n\n5. Filing of affidavit of carbon dioxide beverage dispensing system installation, alteration and repair, and carbon dioxide release.\n\n6.
