Code § FC 601","heading":"Section FC 601: General","body":"601.1 Scope.\n\nThis chapter shall govern the design, installation, operation and maintenance of selected devices, equipment and systems used or designed to be used to provide building services, including battery, commercial cooking, elevator recall, emergency power, heating and refrigerating systems.\n\n601.2 Permits.\n\nPermits shall be required as set forth in FC 105.6.\n\n601.3 General.\n\nFuel-fired appliances, devices, equipment and systems, emergency power systems, electrical systems and equipment, refrigerating systems, elevator recall, stationary energy storage systems and commercial cooking systems shall be designed, installed, operated and maintained in accordance with this chapter.\n\n601.4 Supervision.\n\nFuel oil storage systems, refrigerating systems and stationary energy storage systems shall be supervised in accordance with FC 601.4.1 through 601.4.4.\n\n601.4.1 Fuel oil storage and transfer.\n\nA stationary fuel oil storage tank, and related piping, that is installed on the lowest floor of a building and that transfers fuel oil through piping to another stationary fuel oil storage tank, or to fuel-oil burning equipment, installed above such floor, shall be under the general supervision of a certificate of fitness holder. The periodic inspection and testing of such tanks and piping pursuant to FC 603.1.9 shall be conducted under the personal supervision of such certificate of fitness holder.\n\n601.4.2 Refrigerating systems.\n\nRefrigerating systems shall be supervised by a person holding a certificate of qualification in accordance with FC 606.1.1 and FC Table 606.1.1.\n\n601.4.3 Stationary energy storage systems.\n\nStationary energy storage systems subject to compliance with the requirements of FC 608 shall be supervised by a person holding a certificate of fitness in accordance with FC 608.7.\n\n601.4.4 Commercial cooking systems.\n\nCommercial cooking systems subject to compliance with requirements of FC 609 shall be supervised by a person holding a certificate of fitness in accordance with FC 609.3.","path":["New York City Administrative Code","Title 29","Chapter 2: New York City Fire Code"],"source_url":"https://files.amlegal.com/pdffiles/NewYorkCity/Admin/XML.zip","current_through":"Local Law 2026/135 (enacted August 31, 2026)","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-06T02:48:57Z","sha256":"ce65f1cc2711b978f338bd137703c6d90fb270b61966baa074bc55faaf6eb4b9","source_id":"us-nyc","stale":true,"prev":"us-nyc/n.y.c.-admin.-code-fc-512","next":"us-nyc/n.y.c.-admin.-code-fc-602"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
