Code § FC 610","heading":"Section FC 610: Commercial Kitchen Cooking Oil Storage Systems","body":"610.1 General.\n\nStorage of unused (fresh) and/or used (waste) cooking oil in an aboveground storage system in a commercial kitchen shall be in accordance with FC 610.2 through 610.4 and NFPA 30.\n\n610.2 Storage tanks.\n\nCooking oil tanks shall be designed and constructed so as to be capable of withstanding the heating associated with the operation of cooking oil storage systems. Cooking oil shall be stored in metallic storage tanks listed in accordance with UL 142 or UL 80, and shall be installed in accordance with the tank manufacturer's instructions. Cooking oil may be stored in nonmetallic tanks only when approved by the department.\n\n610.3 Cooking oil storage system components.\n\nCooking oil storage system components, including piping, connections, fittings, valves, tubing, hose, pumps and vents, may be of metallic or nonmetallic construction, and shall be designed for the working pressure and maximum operating temperature of the storage system. All electrical components shall comply with the Electrical Code. Electrical components used to heat the cooking oil shall additionally be listed to UL 499.\n\n610.4 Tank venting.\n\nNormal and emergency venting shall be provided for cooking oil storage tanks and shall terminate outdoors.\n\n610.4.1 Normal vents.\n\nNormal vents shall be located above the maximum normal liquid line, and shall have a minimum effective area not smaller than the largest filling or withdrawal connection.\n\n610.4.2 Emergency vents.\n\nEmergency vents shall be located above the maximum normal liquid line, and shall be in the form of a device or devices that will relieve excessive internal pressure caused by a fire.","path":["New York City Administrative Code","Title 29","Chapter 2: New York City Fire Code"],"source_url":"https://files.amlegal.com/pdffiles/NewYorkCity/Admin/XML.zip","current_through":"Local Law 2026/135 (enacted August 31, 2026)","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-06T02:48:57Z","sha256":"d7df3e5762c839d08a92bf76543970f321a09e3290e9d1016a6cc5c70dc42185","source_id":"us-nyc","stale":false,"prev":"us-nyc/n.y.c.-admin.-code-fc-609","next":"us-nyc/n.y.c.-admin.-code-fc-611"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
