Code § FC 913","heading":"Section FC 913: Fire Pumps","body":"913.1 General.\n\nWhere provided, fire pumps shall be installed in accordance with this section, the construction codes, including the Building Code, and NFPA 20.\n\n913.2 Protection against interruption of service.\n\nThe fire pump, driver, and controller shall be protected in accordance with NFPA 20 against possible interruption of service through damage caused by explosion, fire, flood, earthquake, rodents, insects, windstorm, freezing, vandalism and other adverse conditions.\n\n913.3 Temperature of pump room.\n\nSuitable means shall be provided for maintaining the temperature of a pump room or pump house, where required, above 40°F (5°C).\n\n913.3.1 Engine manufacturer's recommendation.\n\nTemperature of the pump room, pump house or area where engines are installed shall never be less than the minimum recommended by the engine manufacturer. The engine manufacturer's recommendations for oil heaters shall be followed.\n\n913.4 Valve supervision.\n\nWhere provided, the fire pump suction, discharge and bypass valves, and the isolation valves on the backflow prevention device or assembly shall be supervised open by a fire alarm system and monitored by an approved central station.\n\n913.4.1 Test outlet valve supervision.\n\nFire pump test outlet valves shall be supervised in the closed position.\n\n913.5 Operation and maintenance.\n\nFire pumps shall be operated and maintained in compliance with the requirements of this section, FC 901.6 and NFPA 25, including all required inspection, testing and servicing.\n\n913.5.1 Acceptance test.\n\nAcceptance testing shall be done in accordance with FC 901.5 and NFPA 20. Acceptance tests shall be conducted at the owner's risk by his or her representative before a representative of the department.\n\n913.5.2 Generator sets.\n\nEngine generator sets supplying emergency power to fire pump assemblies shall be periodically tested in accordance with FC 604 and the Electrical Code.\n\n913.5.3 Transfer switches.\n\nAutomatic transfer switches shall be periodically tested in accordance with FC 604 and the Electrical Code.\n\n913.5.4 Pump room environmental conditions.\n\nTests of pump room environmental conditions, including heating, ventilation and illumination shall be made to ensure proper manual or automatic operation of the associated equipment.\n\n913.6 Fire pump supervision.\n\nThe following fire pump operations shall be electrically supervised by the fire alarm system in accordance with the Electrical Code and NFPA 20; and monitored by a central station in accordance with this code and the rules:\n\n1. Pump running.\n\n2. Pump power failed.\n\n3.
