Code § FGC 505","heading":"Section FGC 505: Direct-Vent, Integral Vent, Mechanical Vent and Ventilation / Exhaust Hood Venting","body":"505.1 General.\n\nThe installation of direct-vent and integral vent appliances shall be in accordance with Section 503. Mechanical venting systems and exhaust hood venting systems shall be designed and installed in accordance with Section 503.\n\n505.1.1 Commercial cooking appliances vented by exhaust hoods.\n\nRefer to Chapter 5 of the New York City Mechanical Code.\n\n505.1.2 Interlock requirements.\n\nWhere commercial cooking appliances are vented by means of the Type I or Type II kitchen exhaust hood system that serves such appliances, the exhaust system shall be fan powered and the appliances shall be interlocked with the exhaust hood system to prevent appliance operation when the exhaust hood system is not operating. The method of interlock between the exhaust hood system and the appliances equipped with standing pilot burner ignition systems shall not cause such pilots to be extinguished. Where a solenoid valve is installed in the gas piping as part of an interlock system, gas piping shall not be installed to bypass such valve. Dampers shall not be installed in the exhaust system.\n\nException: An interlock between the cooking appliances and the exhaust hood system shall not be required where heat sensors or other approved methods automatically activate the exhaust hood system when cooking operations occur.","path":["New York City Administrative Code","Title 28","Chapter 9: New York City Fuel Gas Code"],"source_url":"https://files.amlegal.com/pdffiles/NewYorkCity/Admin/XML.zip","current_through":"Local Law 2026/135 (enacted August 31, 2026)","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-06T02:48:57Z","sha256":"eff98a4598eadcfbb7656147ef2178738a0fc3925346c5a8947782d6f82156bd","source_id":"us-nyc","stale":true,"prev":"us-nyc/n.y.c.-admin.-code-fgc-504","next":"us-nyc/n.y.c.-admin.-code-fgc-506"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
