Code § MC 101","heading":"Section MC 101: General","body":"101.1 Title.\n\nThis code shall be known and may be cited as the \"New York City Mechanical Code,\" \"NYCMC\" or \"MC\". All section numbers in this code shall be deemed to be preceded by the designation \"MC\".\n\n101.2 Scope.\n\nThis code shall regulate the design, installation, maintenance, alteration and inspection of mechanical systems that are permanently installed and utilized to provide control of environmental conditions and related processes within buildings. This code shall also regulate those mechanical systems, system components, equipment and appliances specifically addressed herein. The installation of fuel gas distribution piping and equipment, fuel gas-fired appliances and fuel gas-fired appliance venting systems shall be regulated by the New York City Fuel Gas Code.\n\n101.3 Intent.\n\nThe purpose of this code is to provide minimum standards to safeguard life or limb, health, property, public welfare and the environment by regulating and controlling the design, construction, installation, quality of materials, location, operation and maintenance or use of mechanical systems.\n\n101.4 Severability.\n\nIf a section, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase of this code is, for any reason, held to be unconstitutional, such decision shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions of this code.","path":["New York City Administrative Code","Title 28","Chapter 8: New York City Mechanical Code"],"source_url":"https://files.amlegal.com/pdffiles/NewYorkCity/Admin/XML.zip","current_through":"Local Law 2026/135 (enacted August 31, 2026)","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-06T02:48:57Z","sha256":"ad4e8fcce4bb2c2610c746a5eb967c379052595c6212c8a12e339861c2f5ae8b","source_id":"us-nyc","stale":false,"prev":"us-nyc/n.y.c.-admin.-code-28-801.2","next":"us-nyc/n.y.c.-admin.-code-mc-102"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
