Code § MC 903","heading":"Section MC 903: Factory-Built Fireplaces","body":"903.1 General.\n\nFactory-built fireplaces shall be listed and labeled and shall be installed in accordance with the conditions of the listing. Factory-built fireplaces shall be tested in accordance with UL 127.\n\n903.2 Hearth extensions.\n\nHearth extensions of approved factory-built fireplaces shall be installed in accordance with the listing of the fireplace. The hearth extension shall be readily distinguishable from the surrounding floor area. Listed and labeled hearth extensions shall comply with UL 1618.\n\n903.3 Unvented gas log heaters.\n\nThe installation of unvented gas fired space heaters, gas stoves, gas logs, gas fireplaces and gas fireplace inserts is prohibited.\n\n903.4 Gasketed fireplace doors.\n\nA gasketed fireplace door shall not be installed on a factory-built fireplace except where the fireplace system has been specifically tested, listed and labeled for such use in accordance with UL 127.\n\n903.5 Flues.\n\nSeparate flues shall be provided for every fireplace and fireplace stove.\n\n903.6 Combustion air supply.\n\nAll installations of factory-built fireplaces shall comply with the requirements of the New York City Energy Conservation Code concerning combustion air supply.","path":["New York City Administrative Code","Title 28","Chapter 8: New York City Mechanical Code"],"source_url":"https://files.amlegal.com/pdffiles/NewYorkCity/Admin/XML.zip","current_through":"Local Law 2026/135 (enacted August 31, 2026)","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-06T02:48:57Z","sha256":"363e856f792ed2712ea3900df739debe10bde3d791bd95392bdc0838f3e49566","source_id":"us-nyc","stale":false,"prev":"us-nyc/n.y.c.-admin.-code-mc-902","next":"us-nyc/n.y.c.-admin.-code-mc-904"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
