Code § MC 918","heading":"Section MC 918: Forced-Air Warm-Air Furnaces","body":"918.1 Forced-air furnaces.\n\nOil-fired furnaces shall be tested in accordance with UL 727. Electric furnaces shall be tested in accordance with UL 1995. Solid fuel furnaces shall be tested in accordance with UL 391. Forced-air furnaces shall be installed in accordance with the listings and the manufacturer's instructions. Forced-air warm-air furnaces shall be installed in accordance with the requirements of NFPA 31 and the New York City Fuel Gas Code. Unvented fuel-fired furnaces are prohibited.\n\n918.2 Heat pumps.\n\nElectric heat pumps shall be tested in accordance with UL 1995 or UL 60335-2-40.\n\n918.3 Dampers.\n\nVolume dampers shall not be placed in the air inlet to a furnace in a manner that will reduce the required air to the furnace.\n\n918.4 Circulating air ducts for forced-air warm-air furnaces.\n\nCirculating air for fuel-burning, forced-air-type, warm-air furnaces shall be conducted into the blower housing from outside the furnace enclosure by continuous air-tight ducts.\n\n918.5 Outdoor and return air openings.\n\nOutdoor intake openings shall be located in accordance with Section 401.4.
