Code § PC 703","heading":"Section PC 703: Building Drain","body":"703.1 Building drain pipe near the water service.\n\nWhere the building drain is installed underground and within 5 feet (1524 mm) of the water service, as provided for in Section 603.2, the building drain pipe shall conform to one of the standards for, cast-iron pipe, copper or copper-alloy tubing, or ductile iron listed in \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tTable 702.3\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t.\n\n703.2 Drainage pipe in filled ground.\n\nWhere a building drain is installed on filled or unstable ground, the drainage pipe shall conform to one of the standards for, cast-iron pipe, copper or copper-alloy tubing, ductile iron, nonasbestos fiber cement or concrete pipe listed in \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tTable 702.3\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t.\n\n703.3 Sanitary and storm drains.\n\nWhere separate systems of sanitary drainage and storm drainage are installed in the same property, the sanitary and storm building drains shall be permitted to be laid side by side in one trench.\n\n703.4 Existing building drains.\n\nExisting building drains shall connect with new building drainage systems only where found by examination and test to conform to the new system in quality of material. The commissioner shall notify the owner to make the changes necessary to conform to this code.\n\n703.5 Cleanouts on building drains.\n\nCleanouts on building\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdrains shall be located as set forth in Section \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t708\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t.\n\n703.6 Combined sanitary and storm public sewer.\n\nWhere the public sewer is a combined system for both sanitary and storm water, the sanitary building drain shall be connected in accordance with Section 1109.1.\n\n703.7 Building house traps.\n\nBuilding house traps shall be installed on all building drains in accordance with Section 1002.6.\n\n703.7.1 Fresh air inlets.\n\nEvery sanitary or combined building drain shall be provided with a fresh air inlet pipe connected to the building drain immediately upstream from and within 4 feet (1219 mm) of the building trap. Such connection shall be made in the same manner as prescribed in Section \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t905\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t for vent connections to horizontal drains, and the fresh air inlet pipe shall be extended to the outer air and shall be terminated in an open end at least 6 inches (152 mm) above grade. The open end shall be protected by a perforated metal plate permanently fixed in the mouth of the inlet and having an open ventilating area at least equal to the area of the pipe, or by a return bend with its unprotected open end at least 6 inches (152 mm) above grade, located inside the street line.
