Code § PC 901","heading":"Section PC 901: General","body":"901.1 Scope.\n\nThe provisions of this chapter shall govern the materials, design, construction and installation of vent systems except for vent systems for methane and radon which shall be governed by this section.\n\n901.1.1 Methane and radon venting.\n\nThe design and materials used in the installation of the methane and radon vent systems shall be approved by the commissioner and shall comply with all applicable rules of the Fire Department.\n\n901.2 Trap seal protection.\n\nThe plumbing system shall be provided with a system of vent piping that will permit the admission or emission of air so that the seal of any fixture trap shall not be subjected to a pressure differential of more than 1 inch of water column (249 Pa).\n\n901.2.1 Venting required.\n\nTraps and trapped fixtures shall be vented in accordance with one of the venting methods specified in this chapter.\n\n901.3 Chemical waste vent systems.\n\nThe vent system for a chemical waste system shall be independent of the sanitary vent system and shall terminate separately through the roof to the outdoors.\n\n901.4 Use limitations.\n\nThe plumbing vent system shall not be utilized for purposes other than the venting of the plumbing system.\n\n901.5 Tests.\n\nThe vent system shall be tested in accordance with Section \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t312\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t.\n\n901.6 Engineered systems.\n\nEngineered venting systems shall conform to the provisions of Section \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t919\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t.","path":["New York City Administrative Code","Title 28","Chapter 6: New York City Plumbing Code"],"source_url":"https://files.amlegal.com/pdffiles/NewYorkCity/Admin/XML.zip","current_through":"Local Law 2026/135 (enacted August 31, 2026)","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-06T02:48:57Z","sha256":"153ece158deebb66ae0938a097d020513847b9a7eaadba60f18e88d8e50fc72a","source_id":"us-nyc","stale":false,"prev":"us-nyc/n.y.c.-admin.-code-pc-804","next":"us-nyc/n.y.c.-admin.-code-pc-902"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
