Office of criminal justice.","body":"There is established in the executive office of the mayor an office of criminal justice, to be headed by a coordinator of criminal justice appointed by the mayor. The coordinator shall:\n\n(1) advise and assist the mayor in planning for increased coordination and cooperation among agencies under the jurisdiction of the mayor that are involved in criminal justice programs and activities;\n\n(2) review the budget requests of all agencies for programs related to criminal justice and recommend to the mayor budget priorities among such programs;\n\n(3) evaluate the performance of the vendor of any contract with the office of criminal justice or the office for neighborhood safety and the prevention of gun violence that requires the vendor to provide: (i) alternatives to incarceration, including programs for diversion from incarceration; (ii) services related to re-entry to the community following incarceration; (iii) services related to pretrial supervised release; or (iv) violence prevention programming. Beginning no later than September 1, 2024, and no later than September 1 annually thereafter, the coordinator shall submit a written summary of each evaluation conducted pursuant to this subdivision during the previous fiscal year to the mayor and the speaker of the council. Any such summary shall include, but need not be limited to, the following information: (i) the amount of funding received by the vendor pursuant to the contract; (ii) the number of persons to whom services or programming were provided pursuant to the contract; (iii) a brief description of the services or programming provided pursuant to the contract; and (iv) where applicable, information related to re-arrest or compliance by persons to whom services or programming were provided pursuant to the contract, including the rate of re-arrest for such persons; and\n\n(4) perform such other duties as the mayor may assign.","path":["New York City Charter","Chapter 1: Mayor"],"source_url":"https://files.amlegal.com/pdffiles/NewYorkCity/Charter/XML.zip","current_through":"Local Law 2026/135 (enacted August 31, 2026)","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-06T02:48:59Z","sha256":"40de83b06170c1850aa866595a329a29c031912bebcd9df989f71e1142d82816","source_id":"us-nyc","stale":true,"prev":"us-nyc/n.y.c.-charter-12","next":"us-nyc/n.y.c.-charter-13-a"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
