Code § 4509.79","heading":"Liability insurance for motor vehicles used in ridesharing arrangement.","body":"(A) As used in this section, \"ridesharing arrangement\" means the transportation of persons in a motor vehicle where such transportation is incidental to another purpose of a volunteer driver and includes ridesharing arrangements known as carpools, vanpools, and buspools.\n(B) Every owner registering as a passenger car a motor vehicle designed and used for carrying more than nine but not more than fifteen passengers or registering a bus under division (G) of section 4503.04 of the Revised Code shall have in effect, whenever the motor vehicle is used in a ridesharing arrangement, a policy of liability insurance with respect to the motor vehicle in amounts and coverage no less than:\n(1) One hundred thousand dollars because of bodily injury to or death of one person in any one accident;\n(2) Three hundred thousand dollars because of bodily injury to or death of two or more persons in any one accident;\n(3) Fifty thousand dollars because of injury to property of others in any one accident.\n(C) Whoever violates this section shall be fined not more than five thousand dollars.","path":["Title 45 Motor Vehicles-Aeronautics-Watercraft","Chapter 4509 Financial Responsibility"],"source_url":"https://codes.ohio.gov/ohio-revised-code/section-4509.79","current_through":"2004-09-16 (House Bill 230 - 125th General Assembly)","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:24:37Z","sha256":"a2472128b672cb84ee84b84502139a57a8e0e70074d89dff8ba4bf2d4c57738a","source_id":"us-oh","stale":false,"prev":"us-oh/ohio-rev.-code-4509.78","next":"us-oh/ohio-rev.-code-4509.80"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
