Code § 4785.02","heading":"Conveyance services requiring a license [repealed 4/3/2033].","body":"(A) This chapter shall be used to regulate the individuals and entities performing construction, testing, maintenance, alteration, and repair of the following equipment, associated parts, and hoistways:\n(1) Elevators;\n(2) Power-driven stairways and walkways for carrying persons between landings, including both of the following:\n(a) Escalators;\n(b) Moving walks.\n(3) Hoisting and lowering mechanisms equipped with a car that serves two or more landings and is restricted to the carrying of material by its limited size or limited access to the car, including both of the following:\n(a) Dumbwaiters;\n(b) Material lifts and dumbwaiters with automatic transfer devices.\n(4) Automatic guided transit vehicles on guideways with an exclusive right-of-way, including automated people movers.\n(B) This chapter shall not be used to regulate any of the following:\n(1) Material hoists within the scope of the material hoists safety requirements;\n(2) Manlifts within the scope of the belt manlifts safety standards;\n(3) Mobile scaffolds, towers, and platforms within the scope of the vehicle-mounted elevating and rotating work platforms standards;\n(4) Powered platforms and equipment for exterior and interior maintenance within the scope of the powered platforms for building maintenance safety standards;\n(5) Conveyors and related equipment within the scope of the conveyors, cableways, and related equipment safety code;\n(6) Cranes, derricks, hoists, hooks, jacks, and slings within the scope of cableways, cranes, derricks, hoists, hooks, jacks, and slings safety standards;\n(7) Industrial trucks within the scope of the powered industrial trucks safety standards;\n(8) Portable equipment, except for portable escalators which are covered by the elevators and escalators safety code;\n(9) Tiering or piling machines used to move materials to and from storage located and operating entirely within one story;\n(10) Equipment for feeding or positioning materials at machine tools, printing presses, and similar machines;\n(11) Skip or furnace hoists;\n(12) Wharf ramps;\n(13) Railroad car lifts or dumpers;\n(14) Line jacks, false cars, shafters, moving platforms, and similar equipment used for installing an elevator by a contractor licensed in this state;\n(15) Platform lifts and stairway chairlifts within the scope of the safety standard adopted by the American society of mechanical engineers commonly referred to as ASME A18.1 ;\n(16) Any conveyance installed in a showroom that is for demonstration purposes only.","path":["Title 47 Occupations-Professions","Chapter 4785 Elevator Contractors and Elevator Mechanics"],"source_url":"https://codes.ohio.gov/ohio-revised-code/section-4785.02","current_through":"2023-04-03 (House Bill 107 - 134th General Assembly)","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:24:38Z","sha256":"5f6585debc016f2b70ecf2b3d2755aec0a6f012db6ad903c522e0f9317ca646b","source_id":"us-oh","stale":false,"prev":"us-oh/ohio-rev.-code-4785.01","next":"us-oh/ohio-rev.-code-4785.021"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
