Code § 504.02","heading":"Election for adopting limited home rule government.","body":"(A) After certification of a resolution as provided in division (A) of section 504.01 of the Revised Code, the board of elections shall submit the question of whether to adopt a limited home rule government to the electors of the unincorporated area of the township, and the ballot language shall be substantially as follows:\n\"Shall the township of ___________ (name) adopt a limited home rule government, under which government the board of township trustees, by resolution, may exercise limited powers of local self-government and limited police powers?\n______ For adoption of a limited home rule government\n______ Against adoption of a limited home rule government\"\n(B)(1) At least forty-five days before the election on this question, the board of township trustees shall have notice of the election and a description of the proposed limited home rule government published once a week for two consecutive weeks using at least one of the following methods:\n(a) In the print or digital edition of a newspaper of general circulation in the township;\n(b) On the official public notice web site established under section 125.182 of the Revised Code;\n(c) On the web site and social media account of the township.\nThe board shall have the notice and description posted in five conspicuous places in the unincorporated area of the township.\n(2) If a board of elections operates and maintains a web site, notice of the election and a description of the proposed limited home rule government shall be posted on that web site for at least thirty days before the election on this question.\n(C) If a majority of the votes cast on the proposition of adopting a limited home rule government is in the affirmative, that government is adopted and becomes the government of the township on the first day of January immediately following the election.","path":["Title 5 Townships","Chapter 504 Limited Home Rule Government"],"source_url":"https://codes.ohio.gov/ohio-revised-code/section-504.02","current_through":"2025-04-03 (House Bill 315 - 135th General Assembly)","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:24:27Z","sha256":"cdcc75c3f19186a098a6b552c5594845d09dc4bed96b734b7d63fc6d0c81271e","source_id":"us-oh","stale":false,"prev":"us-oh/ohio-rev.-code-504.01","next":"us-oh/ohio-rev.-code-504.021"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
