Code § 5180.50","heading":"[Former R.C. 5101.85, amended and renumbered by H.B. 96, 136th General Assembly, effective 9/30/2025] Kinship caregiver defined.","body":"As used in sections 5180.51 to 5180.514 of the Revised Code, \"kinship caregiver\" means any of the following who is eighteen years of age or older and is caring for a child in place of the child's parents:\n(A) The following individuals related by blood or adoption to the child:\n(1) Grandparents, including grandparents with the prefix \"great,\" \"great-great,\" or \"great-great-great\";\n(2) Siblings;\n(3) Aunts, uncles, nephews, and nieces, including such relatives with the prefix \"great,\" \"great-great,\" \"grand,\" or \"great-grand\";\n(4) First cousins and first cousins once removed.\n(B) Stepparents and stepsiblings of the child;\n(C) Spouses and former spouses of individuals named in divisions (A) and (B) of this section;\n(D) A legal guardian of the child;\n(E) A legal custodian of the child;\n(F) Any nonrelative adult that has a familiar and long-standing relationship or bond with the child or the family, which relationship or bond will ensure the child's social ties.","path":["Title 51 Public Welfare","Chapter 5180 Department of Children and Youth"],"source_url":"https://codes.ohio.gov/ohio-revised-code/section-5180.50","current_through":"2025-09-30 (House Bill 96 - 136th General Assembly)","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:24:40Z","sha256":"f75980f09902583b2b0edf16f4f346d3f0c44e0c7d3211ddc1a24e07e8e331ba","source_id":"us-oh","stale":false,"prev":"us-oh/ohio-rev.-code-5180.454","next":"us-oh/ohio-rev.-code-5180.51"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
