Code § 5535.03","heading":"Establishment, construction, and vacation of freeways.","body":"The director of transportation, board of county commissioners, and municipal authorities may lay out, establish, acquire, open, construct, improve, maintain, regulate, vacate, or abandon the use of freeways within this state in the same manner in which they may lay out, establish, acquire, open, construct, improve, maintain, regulate, vacate, or abandon the use of roads, highways, or streets. Such director, board, and municipal authorities shall have all additional authority and power, relative to such freeways, as they possess relative to roads, highways, or streets, including the authority and power to acquire by gift, purchase, condemnation, or otherwise, such lands as are required for rights-of-way, and to be provided for from any available funds.\nWhere an existing road, highway, or street, in whole or in part, has been designated as or included within a freeway, existing easements of access may be extinguished by purchase, gift, agreement, or condemnation.","path":["Title 55 Roads-Highways-Bridges","Chapter 5535 Types Of Highways"],"source_url":"https://codes.ohio.gov/ohio-revised-code/section-5535.03","current_through":"1973-09-28 (House Bill 200 - 110th General Assembly)","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:24:40Z","sha256":"4cf314da6fc0109223b777bc1e2f14614790e8228d82356eb6b4094ac873a7ca","source_id":"us-oh","stale":false,"prev":"us-oh/ohio-rev.-code-5535.02","next":"us-oh/ohio-rev.-code-5535.04"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
