Any person, firm, corporation, or other entity desiring to\n\nengage in the business of abstracting in this state shall make\n\napplication to the Oklahoma Abstractors Board for a certificate of\n\nauthority for each county in which the applicant desires to do\n\nbusiness. The application shall be on a form prepared by the Board\n\nand containing such information as may be necessary to determine\n\nwhether or not the applicant has complied with the provisions of the\n\nOklahoma Abstractors Act. The application shall be accompanied by a\n\nfee and a bond. The bond may be a corporate surety bond or a\n\npersonal bond in the form of cash or a certificate of deposit\n\nendorsed in favor of and delivered to the Board. The application\n\nfee shall be set by the Board in an amount determined by the number\n\nof counties in which the applicant desires to do business not to\n\nexceed the following schedule:\n\nCounty Population Fee Not to Exceed\n\nLess than 10,000 $500.00\n\n10,000 but less than 30,000 $1,000.00\n\n30,000 but less than 60,000 $1,500.00\n\n60,000 but less than 100,000 $2,000.00\n\n100,000 but less than 200,000 $3,000.00\n\n200,000 or more $4,000.00\n\nB. The applicant shall furnish proof to the Board that there is\n\nan abstract plant available for use for each county for which\n\nabstracts will be prepared, or that the applicant was engaged in the\n\nbusiness of abstracting in this state on January 1, 1984, and had a\n\nvalid certificate of authority pursuant to the laws of this state on\n\nthat date for each county in which the applicant wishes to do\n\nbusiness. Or, if it is finally determined that the applicant was\n\nentitled to a valid certificate of authority pursuant to the\n\nprovisions of the previous law, said applicant shall be deemed to\n\nhave been engaged in the business of abstracting on January 1, 1984,\n\nand had a valid certificate of authority pursuant to the laws of\n\nthis state for each county in which the applicant wishes to do\n\nbusiness. All periods for compliance for a certificate of authority\n\npursuant to the provisions of the Oklahoma Abstractors Act shall be\n\nextended for like periods from the date of such determination\n\nnotwithstanding other provisions of the Oklahoma Abstractors Act.\n\nC. The applicant also shall furnish proof of either errors and\n\nomissions insurance or a bond for each county in which the applicant\n\nwishes to do business to pay damages for possible errors in\n\nabstracts prepared subject to the provisions of the certificate as\n\nfollows:\n\nCounty Population Amount of Bond\n\nLess than 30,000 $15,000.00\n\n30,000 but less than 60,000 $25,000.00\n\n60,000 but less than 100,000 $50,000.00\n\n100,000 or more $100,000.00\n\nThe bond may be a corporate surety bond or a personal bond in\n\nthe form of cash or a certificate of deposit endorsed in favor of\n\nand delivered to the Board.","path":["OK Code","Title 1"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os1.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"ae7ac8fc371221f69866bc91f6e5f67da351925fb6df471dcf392fad233a4e02","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-1-1-26","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-1-1-28"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
