Persons who are believed to be homeless children and youth\n\nas defined in Section 600 of Title 10 of the Oklahoma Statutes may\n\nbe verified as being homeless by:\n\n1. The director, or designee, of a homeless shelter;\n\n2. The director, or designee, of a transitional living program;\n\n3. The McKinney-Vento homeless liaison of a public school; or\n\n4. A continuum of care lead agency or its designee.\n\nB. Verification that a child or youth is homeless shall\n\nconsist, at a minimum, of the following steps:\n\n1. The child or youth shall be known to the person verifying\n\nhis or her housing status; and\n\n2. If verifying the status of a child or youth under eighteen\n\n(18) years of age, the person verifying shall:\n\na. check the National Missing and Unidentified Persons\n\nSystem (NamUs) referenced in Section 151.3 of Title 74\n\nof the Oklahoma Statutes for the name of the child or\n\nyouth,\n\nb. send a letter by return receipt mail to the last-known\n\naddress of the parent or legal guardian of the child\n\nor youth informing the parent or legal guardian that\n\nthe person verifying is assisting the child or youth\n\nin obtaining a REAL ID Noncompliant Identification\n\nCard, which shall be valid for a period of four (4)\n\nyears from the month of issuance, and\n\nc. if no response from the parent or legal guardian\n\nobjecting to the child or youth obtaining a REAL ID\n\nNoncompliant Identification Card is received within\n\nfifteen (15) business days, the person may prepare\n\nwritten verification stating that the child or youth\n\nis homeless.\n\nThe written verification shall be printed on the letterhead of\n\nthe entity authorized to verify the housing status of the child or\n\nyouth and shall be dated, signed by the person verifying, and\n\nnotarized.","path":["OK Code","Title 10"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os10.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"c8ccefd5ff52c06d05fc61edbf2e5bee4c2f18fd17998ad8708fa574028fc75a","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-10-10-601.6c","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-10-10-601.80"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
