Stat. tit. 10A, § 10A-2-7-604","heading":"Physical force, when authorized - Mechanical","body":"restraints – Chemical agents.\n\nA. Use of physical force in institutions and other facilities\n\noperated by or through contract with the Office of Juvenile Affairs\n\nwherein children are housed shall be permitted only under the\n\nfollowing circumstances:\n\n1. For self-protection;\n\n2. To separate juveniles who are fighting; or\n\n3. To restrain juveniles in danger of inflicting harm to\n\nthemselves or others; or\n\n4. To restrain juveniles who have escaped or who are in the\n\nprocess of escaping.\n\nB. When use of physical force is authorized, the least force\n\nnecessary under the circumstances shall be employed.\n\nC. Staff members of residential and nonresidential programs who\n\nare assigned to work with juveniles shall receive written guidelines\n\non the use of physical force, and that, in accordance with staff\n\ndisciplinary procedures, loss of employment may result if\n\nunauthorized use of physical force is proven.\n\nD. Use of mechanical restraints in institutions and other\n\nfacilities operated by or through contract with the Office of\n\nJuvenile Affairs or the Department of Mental Health and Substance\n\nAbuse Services wherein children are housed shall be minimal and\n\nshall be prohibited except as specifically provided for in the rules\n\nof the Office of Juvenile Affairs and Department of Mental Health\n\nand Substance Abuse Services.\n\nE.
