Stat. tit. 11, § 11-43-109.2","heading":"Residential building permits - Verification of","body":"contractor's insurance - Fees - Liability.\n\nA. Any entity that issues building permits shall, before\n\nissuance of a residential building permit, obtain a certificate of\n\ninsurance from the appropriate insurer that the contractor has\n\ngeneral liability insurance in an amount required by other\n\nconstruction trade contractors licensed by the Construction\n\nIndustries Board and that the contractor has workers’ compensation\n\ninsurance or a workers’ compensation exemption verification\n\ndocument. A residential building permit shall be defined for this\n\nsection as any building permit for a single-family or a duplex\n\nresidential structure and shall include construction of a new\n\nstructure, remodel of an existing structure, and the addition to an\n\nexisting structure. Not included under the definition of a\n\nresidential building permit are a single-family or a duplex carport,\n\npatio cover, storage building, accessory building, pool, or fence.\n\nB. This provision shall not apply to a person or persons\n\nperforming the construction or remodeling to his, her, or their own\n\nsingle-family or duplex structure on their own property regardless\n\nif the construction or remodeling is to a single family or duplex\n\nstructure that is also for rental purposes, unless the modifications\n\nare being performed by and the permit is acquired by a general\n\ncontractor or subcontractor, in which case the general contractor or\n\nsubcontractor shall meet the requirements set forth in subsection A\n\nof this section.\n\nC. If the entity should require a contractor to register in\n\norder to monitor insurance verifications, the registration fee shall\n\nnot exceed the fee assessed by the entity for other construction\n\ntrade contractors licensed by the Construction Industries Board.\n\nD.
