Stat. tit. 11, § 11-47-103","heading":"City planning commission - Membership","body":"The city planning commission shall consist of nine (9) members\n\nto be appointed by the mayor, if the mayor be an elective officer,\n\notherwise by such officer as the council may designate as the\n\nappointing power in the ordinance creating the commission. In a\n\nmunicipality which is divided into wards or other subdivisions for\n\nthe election of members of the council, one member shall be\n\nappointed to the planning commission from each of the wards or\n\nsubdivisions. All members of the commission shall serve as such\n\nwithout compensation, and the members shall hold no other municipal\n\noffice, except that one member may be a member of the zoning board\n\nof adjustment or appeals and no more than four members may serve on\n\ndesign committees or commissions. The term of each member shall be\n\nsix (6) years or until his or her successor is appointed and\n\nqualified; except that when the commission is first appointed, the\n\nrespective terms of three of the members shall be three (3), four\n\n(4) and five (5) years. Members may be removed by the mayor, after\n\na public hearing, for inefficiency, neglect of duty, or malfeasance\n\nin office. The mayor shall file a written statement of reasons for\n\nthe removal.
