The mayor, the clerk and the treasurer of every incorporated\n\nmunicipality are, in addition to the duties now required of them,\n\nhereby created and constituted, together with three members from the\n\nfire department of such municipality, a local firefighters pension\n\nand retirement board of each such municipality, which board shall be\n\nknown as the Local Firefighters Pension and Retirement Board. The\n\nfire department of each such municipality shall elect, by ballot,\n\nthree members of such fire department, one of whom shall serve for\n\nthe term of one (1) year, and one for the term of two (2) years, and\n\none for the term of three (3) years, and thereafter such fire\n\ndepartment shall, every year, elect by ballot one of its members to\n\nserve for the term of three (3) years upon the local board;\n\nprovided, the provisions of this article shall not apply to any\n\nmunicipality where no regularly organized fire department is\n\nmaintained, nor to any municipality where the fire department has\n\nfirefighting apparatus of less than One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00)\n\nvalue.\n\nB. Local firefighter pension and retirement boards of\n\nparticipating employers of the System shall be terminated on\n\nDecember 31, 2016, and all powers, duties and functions shall be\n\nassumed by the Executive Director unless a majority of the active\n\nfirefighters of an affected fire department elect to continue their\n\nlocal firefighter pension and retirement board before the\n\ntermination date prescribed by this subsection, provided that an\n\nelection shall be held within twenty (20) days of the date a\n\npetition is presented to the fire chief of a fire department signed\n\nby at least ten percent (10%) of the active firefighters on the\n\nrolls as of the petition date requesting an election to continue the\n\nlocal firefighter pension and retirement board.","path":["OK Code","Title 11"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os11.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"f29e1849bf2fd2b5b8917f3a7bcf969fda69ea6f990f7a4ae308898ef6752f38","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-11-11-49-102","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-11-11-49-104"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
