Stat. tit. 11, § 11-9-111","heading":"Vacancy in the office of mayor","body":"When a vacancy occurs in the office of the mayor less than\n\nninety (90) days before the next regular municipal election, the\n\npresident of the city council shall act as mayor until the next\n\nregular municipal election, at which time the registered voters of\n\nthe city shall elect a person to fill any unexpired term, and until\n\na mayor is elected and qualified for office. If the vacancy in the\n\nmayor's office occurs more than ninety (90) days before the next\n\nregular municipal election, the acting mayor shall cause a special\n\nelection to be held for the purpose of electing a mayor for the\n\nduration of the unexpired term.
