Stat. tit. 11, § 11-9-118","heading":"City officials and employees - Suspension or removal -","body":"Successors.\n\nAn appointed officer or employee may be suspended, demoted, laid\n\noff or removed by the mayor. Where appeal procedures have not been\n\nestablished by ordinance, the officer or employee may appeal the\n\naction to the city council. The appeal shall be in writing and\n\nshall be filed with the clerk of the council within ten (10) days\n\nafter the effective date of the layoff, suspension, demotion or\n\nremoval. The council may affirm, reverse or modify the mayor's\n\ndecision.
